SPECIALTY: Dr. Barnard focuses his practice on the orthopaedic management of upper extremity problems, which includes acute trauma and sports injuries, as well as the often complex reconstruction of chronic arthritic conditions. He is often asked to take over the care of problems that require joint replacement of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: He is a graduate of Creighton University Undergraduate and Medical School. Dr. Barnard received his orthopaedic training at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, and his Hand Fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Union Memorial Hospital. He has gone beyond his Board Certifi cation in Orthopaedics and has earned the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery.

DEVOTION TO LEARNING: Dr. Barnard has challenged himself to add to his recognition of upper extremity problems and has strived to continually update and improve care, seeking to achieve the very best outcomes of treatment. Dr. Barnard draws on experiences he has gathered while serving 11 years in the U.S. Army, treating high-energy war wounds of active duty soldiers, and has added to this wealth of experience accumulated over 24 years of dedicated work in Central Florida at the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic. Having built a practice in reconstructive surgery and being blessed with patients who themselves have strong roots in Central Florida and thus provide feedback on the long-term success of treatment, Dr. Barnard is asked to share his experiences in lecturing at national and international conferences. This interaction with many other world-class authorities has also helped to expose him to some of the most current advances in orthopaedic care.

BEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Dr. Barnard surrounds himself with qualified individuals he can trust and rely on, working with his son, Oliver at Physicians’ Surgical Care Center as an Assistant Surgical Tech.
