Winter is here, but that doesn’t mean outdoor activities need to come to a halt. To help you keep your athletes and members of your community safe and active this winter, NATA has created an Environmental Cold Injuries Handout (pdf), found on p. 42 in the December NATA News. In it, you find information on the four common environmental cold injuries—hypothermia, frostbite, chilblain and immersion foot—as well as safety tips. The purpose of the handout is to help you educate our community on the possible dangers cold weather presents as well as to create awareness of the signs to lookout for and safety precautions to take. If you’re looking for more information on environmental cold injuries, review the NATA’s Environmental Cold Injuries Position Statement.
