Whether performing total joint replacement surgery, coaching an injured patient to recovery, or serving as the Orlando Magic's team physicians for the past 20 years, the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic has built its practice around teamwork.
Throughout its 75-year history, the Clinic has developed and nurtured lasting relationships with its patients, the community and within its own team of health care professionals.
An internationally recognized orthopaedic pioneer and inventor or one of the most commonly used devices for the treatment of hip fractures worldwide, Dr. Eugene L. Jewett founded Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic in 1936.
Because of his medical accomplishments, Dr. Jewett's philosophy of care left behind a legacy with the Clinic he founded. His innovative spirit has served as a guiding force, inspiring many Jewett physicians to introduce new technologies and treatments to improve the care provided to patients in Central Florida and throughout the world.
Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections is a cutting-edge technique that is closely akin to prolotherapy, but the difference is that the patient’s own blood is used as the source of the solution that is being injected. This technique is well documented for use in dental and orthopedic surgeries because of the facilitation of healing and the reduced risk of infection, and is now showing success with treating chronic pain in:
Since the establishment of Jewett's Sports Medicine Center in 1985, sports teams and athletes throughout Central Florida have turned to the practice for their medical needs. Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic currently serves as team physicians for the NBA's Orlando Magic, Orlando Predators arena football, University of Central Florida athletics, Rollins College athletics, and even the Orlando Ballet and Cirque du Soleil.
"When we came to Orlando in 1989, we needed a dedicated, talented team of physicians who understood our unique needs, and Jewett was the natural choice," says Richard DeVos, owner of the Orlando Magic. "They have been behind us every step of the way, helping our players stay healthy and achieve peak performance."
As Central Florida has spanned into outlying areas, Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic has adjusted in order to better serve the community. Most recently, Jewett has expanded to locations in East Orlando and Lake Mary.
With two locations, in Winter Park and Lake Mary, Jewett recognizes that nothing is more disconcerting than to step off a curb and feeling severe pain, or getting a call that your child has fallen in the park and has possibly broken a bone. The Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic was one of the first in the Country to establish an orthopaedic walk-in clinic. “The Convenient Care Clinic allows for our patients to get quick resolve to the issue with proper care, no wait, and a significant cost savings in comparison to the emergency room.” Says Charles May, CEO.
Seeing more than 140,000 patient visits a year, Jewett's health care team is one of the most respected and experienced in the Southeast. All Jewett physicians are board certified or board eligible as well as fellowship trained, and each sub-specializes in at least one area such as total joint replacement or sports medicine. As a result, Jewett physicians are experts in their individual fields but also work closely together, readily tapping into the resources and expertise of their Jewett colleagues.
"We certainly are proud of what we have achieved in the past 75 years, but it is the daily victories - the patient success stories - that inspire us to continue," says John W. McCutchen, M.D., Jewett's President.
