Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic Has Never Used All-Metal Artificial Hips

We have received many questions regarding the recent recall of all-metal artificial hips and want to assure all of our patients that none of our Jewett physicians have ever used any all-metal artificial hips. Instead, our hip surgeons use artificial hips that have a ceramic or metal head on crosslinked polyethylene.  We have found that these have extremely excellent wear -- better than any other material we have seen. 

Our patient’s health, safety and mobility remain our highest priorities. Because we have surgeons who sub-specialize in hips, they have a wide knowledge base and breadth of experience that allowed them to recognize early on, when the all-metal artificial hips came out, that this technology was unsafe. As a group, our physicians don’t jump right in and use the latest technology just because it is “new.”  We believe in waiting to ensure that anything new is medically and scientifically sound, effective and safe before ever using it on our patients.
